Our football philosophy

We want to take children’s football in Jersey to a new level, drawing on how professional clubs develop young players and bringing that approach into our sessions, while keeping the fun, friendly atmosphere that makes Sports Bug what it is.

Our philosophy is simple: Jersey’s best footballers coaching the island’s future stars. We want quality coaching to be accessible to children of all abilities, whether they’re taking their first steps, enjoying a kickabout with friends or dreaming of playing for the Bulls.

Developing players

Our coaches bring playing and coaching experience from clubs including Manchester City, Southampton, Fulham, Wigan Athletic and Liverpool.

What matters most is how we use that experience to help the children we coach. Every player is different, so we take time to get to know them and give them challenges that suit their ability. From learning the basics to developing more advanced skills, we want players to learn, try things and enjoy coming back each week.

Reaching potential

Success looks different for everyone. For one child, it might mean progressing into an academy. For another, it could be playing for their school, club or island, or simply feeling more confident with a ball at their feet.

We want to help each player improve at their own pace, feel proud of their progress and keep enjoying the game.

Providing opportunities

Through our partnership with Jersey Bulls, children can learn from first-team players and coaches, with opportunities to develop further as they progress.

We’re also working on connections that could give young players access to new coaching experiences and professional football environments. There isn’t one route that everyone has to follow, but we want children to have opportunities to explore what they can achieve.

Building a home for football in Jersey

We want to give children more chances to play throughout the year, through our after-school sessions, holiday camps and Bulls Week.

Whether they’re trying football for the first time, playing with friends or looking for their next challenge, our aim is the same: good coaching, plenty of football and a love of the game that stays with them.

From our coaches
“I am a UEFA C Licence coach and hold a BSc in Football Coaching & Performance, supported with six years of coaching experience. As both a coach and player for Jersey Bulls, I am passionate about developing young people alongside their footballing ability, creating positive environments where players can grow in confidence while developing their skills.”

Jack Lumsden, Jersey Bulls first team

“I am a UEFA C licensed coach who has recently come out of full-time football with Wigan Athletic FC, with previous academy experience at Man City and Liverpool. Recently coming off international experience starting in AFCON qualifiers with Somalia, I’m looking forward to bringing the qualities I’ve gained to aspiring footballers.”
